Nigeria Police Bust High-Profile Cybercrime Syndicate Behind Corporate Email Attacks

The Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF–NCCC) has arrested several high-profile internet fraud suspects in connection with sophisticated cyberattacks targeting the email systems of major corporate organisations across Nigeria.

According to official reports, the suspects allegedly orchestrated coordinated phishing campaigns and malware-driven intrusions designed to compromise corporate email infrastructure. These attacks enabled unauthorized access to sensitive business data, financial records, and confidential communications, posing serious risks to affected organisations.

Investigations revealed that the cybercriminals deployed malicious links and harmful software disguised as legitimate emails, tricking unsuspecting employees into granting access to internal systems. Once compromised, the attackers reportedly exploited the systems for financial fraud, data theft, and further cyber infiltration.

The NPF–NCCC, Nigeria’s lead law-enforcement agency for cybercrime investigations, stated that the arrests followed weeks of digital forensics, intelligence gathering, and inter-agency collaboration. The operation highlights the Force’s renewed commitment to tackling cyber fraud, business email compromise (BEC), and digital financial crimes.

Authorities have urged corporate organisations and the general public to strengthen cybersecurity measures, including employee awareness training, advanced email security tools, and prompt reporting of suspicious online activities.

The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its determination to prosecute offenders and protect Nigeria’s digital economy from evolving cyber threats.
