Adamawa Governor Refutes Ordering Closure of Boarding Schools

Yola - Six days after the Commissioner for Education and Human Development, Umar Pella, announced the immediate closure of all boarding schools in the state, the Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, on Friday categorically denied issuing the order.

The Governor's denial contradicts the public directive announced by Commissioner Pella, which had been in effect since the previous Saturday. This sudden clarification introduces significant confusion regarding the official safety measures and operational status of boarding facilities across Adamawa.

The denial raises questions about the coordination between the Governor’s office and the Ministry of Education, particularly concerning sensitive public safety decisions.

The official statement from the Governor’s press unit, released late Friday, asserts that no executive order was given to halt academic activities or close state-run boarding institutions. The unit pledged to issue a comprehensive statement addressing the discrepancy and clarifying the current directive for all educational stakeholders.

The initial announcement by Commissioner Pella had cited security concerns as the primary rationale for the shutdown.
