Pope Francis Appoints Nigerian Monsignor Anthony Ekpo as Assessor for General Affairs in Vatican Secretariat of State

His Holiness, Pope Francis, has announced a significant appointment in the Roman Curia, naming Monsignor Anthony Onyemuche Ekpo as the new Assessor for General Affairs in the powerful Vatican Secretariat of State.

This key role places the Nigerian-born cleric in a pivotal position within the Holy See's central administration. 

The Secretariat of State, often described as the Pope's "central government," is responsible for the overall governance of the Church, maintaining diplomatic relations with sovereign states, and coordinating the Holy Father's activities. The Assessor for General Affairs serves as a chief aide to the Substitute (the section head). 

It is a highly demanding administrative and operational post, focusing on the day-to-day coordination of the Section for General Affairs, which oversees internal Vatican operations, communications, and official documentation. The appointment of Msgr. 

Ekpo highlights his distinguished service and the Holy See's recognition of his administrative skills.

A native of Nigeria, Monsignor Ekpo brings a wealth of experience to this new office. He has previously held key diplomatic roles, demonstrating a deep understanding of the global Church and its complex relationships with the world.
